Sony Ericsson Announces Xperia series Android Smartphones

At CommunicAsia 2011 in Singapore, Sony Ericsson has introduce two new Xperia series smartphones, the Xperia ray and Xperia active. Both phones runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and are set for a Q3 arrival.

First up is the Xperia ray which comes in four colors (black, white, gold and pink) and feature an aluminium frame design while sporting a a 3.3-inch (854 x 480) scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen enhanced with the Mobile Bravia Engine. With the Xperia ray powered by a 1GHz processor, we expect to see a much higher performance and faster access to the web. The smartphone comes equipped with a microSD slot (4GB card included) and a whopping rear-facing 8.1 megapixel camera (with LED flash) that can record 720p video along with a front-facing VGA camera. Other feature include an FM radio, Wifi, bluetooth, aGPS, a micro USB port, and a 1500 mAh battery.

Xperia ray

As for the Xperia active which is dust proof and water resistant, is consider as rugged smartphone. The Xperia active as it name state is for consumer who more active in the field as the device is design to protects it from dust, and water under 1m for 30 minutes plus its touchscreen also supports wet finger tracking. The phone comes with a 1 GHz chip, which allow faster performance. It also comes with a 3-inch (320 x 480) touchscreen (also backed by the Mobile Bravia Engine) and equipped a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. The phone support a microSD slot (2GB card is bundled), along with WiFi, Bluetooth, aGPS and an FM radio. The phone will be powered by a 1200 mAh battery.
